Tomorrow, Sunday, September 14, at 17:00, Syros will become the starting point of the Greek mission of the Global Sumud Flotilla. From the port of Ermoupolis, Oxygen will set sail to join the international fleet heading to Gaza, with the purpose of challenging the illegal blockade and standing by a people who are experiencing and resisting genocide.
The delay that occurred was due not only to reasonable technical issues that arose in such a large fleet—organized in a very short time because of the urgent situation in Gaza—but also to two open drone attacks against ships in Tunisia, which revealed how much this endeavor disturbs the occupying powers and their allies.
This weekend, September 13 & 14, ships are departing from Tunisia and Italy. Tomorrow it’s Greece’s turn. The vessel from Syros will sail to meet the others in the coming days, and after departure you will be able to follow the course of the Greek mission via GPS tracking.
Our choice to dock in Syros until now was not random. We want to thank its people for their genuine concern for Palestine and for our mission, for the way and warmth with which they embrace the cause of solidarity. Society has spoken: we don’t want our ports to be hubs for arms shipments and shelters for war criminals; we want them to become beacons of solidarity.
We call once again: fishermen, sailors, all people of the sea, to gather tomorrow with every vessel in Syros, to accompany the Greek ship on its first miles. To collectively protect it from any obstacle, to bid it farewell as it deserves—with waves of solidarity.
From Syros to Gaza, from Greece to Palestine: we set sail to break the blockade, to stop the genocide, to make heard once again the voice of a people struggling for life, justice, and freedom.
